Trails minutes from the house

Buffalo Park

Easy 2-mile loop with wide-open meadow views and the San Francisco Peaks on the horizon. Great for a quick morning walk or run.

Fat Man's Loop

A popular, moderate 4.5-mile loop on Mt. Elden with solid views over the city — a local favorite for an after-breakfast hike.

Mount Elden Lookout Trail

A steeper, more challenging climb (about 6 miles round trip) rewarded with panoramic views from the old fire lookout site.

Lava River Cave

A nearly mile-long lava tube you can walk through — bring two light sources per person and a warm layer; it stays near-freezing year-round.
